Let’s go through the retouching steps:

Step 1 – Preparation

Always start by cleaning up the skin by using the Spot Healing Brush Tool. Remove the biggest problems with this tool. If your subject has major dark under eyes use the Patch Tool to reduce them.

Step 2 – Run the Base action

Now we’ll get to the actual skin smoothing. Start by running the base action. Paint on the layer mask with white and go over the areas that you’ll want to smooth. To take a closer look at your mask, press Alt + Click on the layer mask. The skin might look a bit weird at this point but after the next step it’ll get better.

Step 3 – Run the Foundation action

Next run the foundation action and do the same as above, paint on the layer mask with white covering the areas you want retouched. Always run base before the foundation action.

The steps 2 and 3 are great if your subject has lot of skin issues such as pimples, blotchy skin, blackheads or freckles. If you just generally want to smoothen the skin, run the action and then lower the opacity.

Everything else after the first 3 steps are optional. You can run the rest of the actions without the base and foundation or as an addition after those 2 steps.

Additional skin actions

You can choose from:

Powder – Smooth the skin some more and hides pores. You can adjust the smoothening to how heavy you want.
Light Powder – Same as Powder except it also lightens the skin and smooths the skin tone.
Smooth Skin – As the name says this smooths the skin and gives skin a flawless look.
Concealer – With this brush you can go over areas that still needs fixing.

Shadows & Highlights

There are 2 methods that you can use for shadows and highlights. Test them both and see which you prefer. Both methods are 100% non destructive. The method one creates 2 layers Shadow and Hightlight. On the shadow layer you once again paint with white brush where you want to add shadow and you do the same for the highlight layer. You can adjust the strength and come back and edit shadows and highlights any time. The method 2 is less flexible but still non destructive.

Color Pop

Color pop action will enhance colors on where ever you paint. Enhance the details in your photo or enhance the eye color some more.

Sharpening

Choose from light or heavy sharpening to give your image a nice sharp finish. Fully adjustable.

Eyes

This action brightens the iris of eyes.

Lips and Blush

The lips and blush actions has 6 premade colors for you to choose from. Run the action, pick a small white brush and paint over the lips. You only need to paint once to reveal all the colors. To change the color open the lips/blush group and turn on/off visibility to test different colors. You can also pick a color and adjust it to your liking. Fully adjustable.

Teeth Whitening

Run the action and paint over the teeth. You can also use this to enhance the white part of the eyes.

Adjust the opacity to adjust the whitening strength

Light and Dark Tan

If you need to give your subject a subtle tan there are two actions for that. Choose light or dark tan and paint over the skin areas that you want to tan. Lower the opacity if the tan is too heavy.

Hair Color

The action comes with 5 pre made hair colors. Run the action, paint over the mask and choose which hair color you want to use. You only need to paint once to reveal all the hair colors (toggle visibility to choose the color). All the hair colors are adjustable but particularly the colorful option uses hue/saturation adjustment layer and you can easily choose a hair color by moving the hue adjuster.

The premade colors work best on brown and light brown hair. You can combine hair colors as well as adjust the darkness.
